We didn't have a TV as a child so I read and I wrote. Mum used to write quotes on the kitchen notice board - phrases from Jude the Obscure, lyrics she loved. Anything that she found delicious. I learnt that savouring of words from her. Ever since I could write, I've written. Often nonsense, but it helped me make sense of the world, it purged my emotions, gave me a concrete version of my secret internal world. I'm still doing it, and now I am making it not secret any more.
I am an Arts Psychotherapist. In sessions, I listen to my clients stories, I witness them, help them re-tell them, or tell them for the first time, help understand them, re-form them, reframe them, play with them, transform with them. I love words in any form. A short quote, a poem, spoken word, lyrics, short stories, novels, storytelling round a fire, round the table, in a pub..... they have the power to cut straight to the heart and make sense of the nonsensical.
When I get around to it I will tell you how!
